Directed by Michael Anderson (Logan’s Run, Orca), this paranoid thriller lacks the panache required for its slimmed-down Hitchcockian twists. Anne Baxter is Kimberley, a fretful heiress agonised by her father’s suicide. When her ‘dead’ brother Ward (a board-stiff Richard Todd) materialises from nowhere, she smells a rat. Who’s on the level? Anderson keeps the bets open until the big twist, but you need dash to smuggle that past an audience.
