This is a psychedelic fairytale, coated in chocolate and tied up in a bright purple bow. Get past Dick Van Dyke's annoying patter and you'll appreciate the kitsch bombast, Chitty's sweet schtick made palatable by the evil that is - shudder - the Childcatcher (Robert Helpmann).
