Chromophobia

2

A pallid Brit remix of Magnolia, Martha Fiennes’ overcrowded film doesn’t pull the weight of its stellar cast. The characters are run-of-the-mill malcontents: sexually frustrated shopaholic Kristin Scott Thomas plans boob implants, bored hubby Damian Lewis grapples with promotion and their pal Ralph Fiennes eyes up their young son. The sterility of Thomas’ ultra-modern abode reflects a London where having it all is cold consolation for real human bonds. Dying prostitute Penélope Cruz is thrown in as an earthy counterpoint, but injects little heart.
