Cinema Paradiso: Director's Cut

5

Distinguished Italian director Salvatore (Jacques Perrin) returns to his hometown for the funeral of his friend and mentor, local projectionist Alfredo (Philippe Noiret). On the way, he recalls his childhood passion for cinema and his love for the girl who has haunted both his life and his films.

DVD Extras:

Director's credits.Giuseppe Tornatore's sentimental celebration of the romance of cinema and the innocence of childhood may be misty-eyed and soft-centred, but it's impossible to dislike. The Director's Cut restores the lengthy middle segment which recounts Salvatore's tortuous romance with a local girl and their reunion in adulthood, helping to leaven the nostalgia and return the film to its original running time of almost three hours. The lack of extras is regrettable but the fact that this is the definitive version on the best format available should leave Paradiso lovers little cause for complaint.
