City Island

The arrival of an ex-con in to the Bronx home of thr Rizzo family brings about some positive changes...

City Island review

“If you’re from the Bronx, City Island is your version of the Hamptons,” explains writer/director Raymond De Felitta, eating pasta with his cast.

It’s an engagingly oddball extra, perfect for this leftfield, Italian-American comedy set on New York’s postage-stamp islet.

Corrections officer Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia, in his best turn since the ’90s) is a wannabe actor who brings home an estranged, ex-convict son to meet the rest of the clan, including suspicious wife Julianna Margulies.

Unformulaic yet totally unthreatening, it’s amiable, airy viewing.
