Synonymous with big hair and hoochy-mama style, the bootylicious Miss Jones casts a long cinematic shadow. But while its notoriety derives from its camp sass, this 1973 blaxploitation flick remains both entertaining and influential.
Cleopatra (the gorgeous Tamara Dobson) is a statuesque government agent with an exhaustive wardrobe who's on a one-woman mission to bust the druglords of LA. Armed with an arsenal of weapons and a flagrant disregard for undercover work, Jones razes the Turkish poppy fields of lesbian heroin queen Mommy (an unrepentantly OTT Shelley Winters), prompting a rash of revenge attacks on herself and her friends.
Crammed with jive talking, high-heeled fights, girl power and Huggy Bear himself (Antonio Fargas), Cleopatra Jones is a slick retro treat. The good news for afro-digging cats is that 1975's Cleopatra Jones And The Casino Of Gold is also out.
