After dumbing down Mr Deeds Goes To Town, Adam Sandler now does It’s A Wonderful Life-lite. Oh, Click may start out like Bruce Almighty – slob given the ability to alter reality (in the form of a universal remote that controls the world) – but by the halfway mark it’s meandered miles into Frank Capra territory. Click’s not awful, just flabby and uneven, Sandler’s grotesque slapstick prat-falling uncomfortably against schmaltzy sentiment. Given a harder-nosed behind-the-scenes crew, it could have been sharper, but as the guffawing commentary from Sandler and college buddies director Frank Coraci and writer Steve Koren demonstrates, this was never going to be a project where less was more. But at least Christopher Walken gets yet another chance to effortlessly pickpocket a movie. He’s chockful of elegantly wasted menace as the nutjob backroom boy who gives Sandler the remote. If only you could fast forward to his bits... oh, wait! You can!
