Clouzot Boxset

4

Has there been a more misanthropic filmmaker than the late Henri-Georges Clouzot? Despite cursory extras, this three-disc set offers a fine intro to the pessimistic, unsentimental work of the French writer/ director, who was dogged by ill-health and falsely accused of collaboration during the Occupation. Not only were his 1950s thrillers The Wages Of Fear and Les Diaboliques international hits, they saw their creator rivalling Hitchcock for the title ‘Master of Suspense’.
