Coffee And Cigarettes

2

Caffeine and cancer-sticks keep hip indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch going through this marathon compilation of 11 monochrome shorts, in which various oddball characters hang out in diners and coffee bars musing about life, the universe and everything. With Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Steve Buscemi and Jack and Meg White propping up the cast list, it's a Who's Who of leftfield talent. But the navel-gazing vignettes are more often miss than hit. Alfred Molina trying to tell Steve Coogan that they're long-lost cousins is razor sharp, but the only moment of true hilarity comes when a coffee-addicted Bill Murray meets "the crispy clean, no caffeine" Wu-Tang Clan.
