March 2003, and the invasion of Iraq is about to begin. In the Qatar desert, journalists flock to the Coalition Media Center, including representatives of Arabic news station Al-Jazeera.
US military PRs grow frustrated at what they see as pro-Saddam propaganda; Al-Jazeera claims to be showing the human cost of war. Buzzing around the media shitstorm is this fly-on-the-wall doc from Startup.com director Jehane Noujaim.
Arguably, Noujaim doesn't make enough of AJ's failings. (Did it really make its audience aware early enough of the Saddam regime's capitulation?) But this remains a stark, powerful piece of filmmaking that puts a human face to an oft-demonised organisation.
