Heartwarming but frustratingly low-key Darwin biopic

The man who changed humanity’s perception of itself deserves a five-star biopic, but Charles Darwin doesn’t get it in Jon Amiel’s slow-burn examination.

The director wastes time with mawkishness, but Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly bring intimacy to Darwin and his wife.
