Daddy Day Care

3

You probably have to be a parent to appreciate the touchy-feely, cutesy-wutesy charms of Eddie Murphy's latest foray into family entertainment, which plays better on the small screen than it did on the big. Partnered with Harvey Weinstein-lookalike Jeff Garlin and a Trek-obsessed Steve Zahn, he sets up the eponymous childminding service with amusing and mawkish results. It's Kindergarten Cop Redux, but the dots are joined efficiently, the anklebiters likeable and Garlin a natural talent. Crap? Well, yes - but warm, fuzzy, watchable crap.

DVD Extras:

Unburdened by the pretensions of many studio packages, the extra features don't push their luck. No director's commentary? We don't want one. No deleted scenes? That's fine. Instead there are four kid-focused featurettes, games, and the excellent animated short Early Bloomer, a very funny Finding Nemo-style tale about tadpoles transforming into frogs.
