Danny Wallace's How To Start Your Own Country

4

Conquering the ‘turning silly dares into profitable TV shows’ market along with his pal Dave Gorman, Danny Wallace here sets about turning his East London flat into a separate country called Lovely. Actually the show’s a canny way of discussing what it is to govern, taking a gander at citizenship, the economy, immigration, creating laws and dealing with their enforcement (which results in a sobering trip to a real death chamber). Along the way, he chats to world leaders, brilliant minds and total kooks. It’s extremely funny, with Wallace proving to be a mischievous, likable guide, at one point ‘invading’ Eel Pie Island (“Hail me as your leader!” he announces to the surprised residents, before the cops turn up). If only they’d showed us this in our politics classes, we might have paid more attention.

DVD Extras: Deleted scenes, The national anthem, Eurovision song & A secret hidden surprise...
