Dara O'Briain: Live At The Theatre Royal

4

Leaping from the small screen (Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You) to the wide-open stage of London’s Theatre Royal, motormouth Irish stand-up Dara O’Briain propels himself into the comedy A-List. Filmed earlier this year, he tackles driving lessons (while mercilessly ribbing a 16-year-old in the front row) and how easy it must be for Milky Bar kids to pick up women. Camper than you’d expect, O’Briain is endlessly energetic, interacting with his audience and offering genuinely original material. Extras-wise, there’s a drunken commentary with Ed Byrne and an oddly touching interview with a former Milky Bar kid in which the now grown-up ad icon admits, yep, that he used his status to score. Tellingly, a further extra of Jack Dee stand-up doesn’t overshadow O’Briain’s work, evidence no doubt of his ascent to the big time.

BEST BIT His haranguing of a Green-belt developer... Not a popular job.
