An ambitious but intriguing teen ménage à trois drama

Dare review

Based on director Adam Salky’s short film of the same name, this multi-stranded coming-of-ager follows three teens as they grapple with life, love and one another.

Emmy Rossum stars as a naive drama nerd whose desperation to grow up drives her and her platonic best friend (Ashley Springer) into an uneasy ménage à trois with edgy loner Johnny (Zach Gilford).

As high school sex sagas go, this is smarter and more, um, daring than the average, but of the leads only Gilford commands the camera, demanding more screen time than the three-pronged structure allows.
