You know the drill: four survivors, one shopping mall, millions of zombies. Billed as the director's cut, this version is actually the original theatrical edition with an extra 12 seconds of previously snipped head-blasting, flesh-ripping, screwdriver-through-the-eardrum gore.
DVD Extras:
With more releases than Pittsburgh has zombie fans, Romero's classic is probably the most over-exposed movie ever to grace a digital disc. This "definitive" outing combines new-but-heard-it-all-before commentary tracks with a 75-minute The Dead Will Walk documentary, whichcovers everything from the film's pre-Sigourney Weaver feminism to hero David Emge's concerns about his zombie character's motivation. The indispensable Trilogy Of The Dead DVD remains the best value for money, but this is the superior, streamlined cut. Still, someone deserves to be shot in the head for the illegible press cuttings.
