Ignore the title: this film has sod-all to do with George Romero’s socio-political satires. Director Steve Miner knows it and so do the cast, who spend the duration of the disc’s fluffy interviews justifying their involvement. A mystery disease is turning a small town into the running dead; Mena Suvari is miscast and wooden as an army corporal rallying a band of survivors. This is straight-to-DVD trash that’s so generic it plays like a parody. Still, it’s occasionally very funny and the effects are reasonable, including a bit where Ving Rhames eats his own eyeball.
