Caine goes on the rob in Spain in this bungled crime thriller

Deadfall review

Somehow between the writing of the script and the shooting of the film, something important got lost,” sighed Michael Caine of this clunker from Bryan Forbes, a confused heist thriller whose Bondian trappings (John Barry score, Shirley Bassey song) can’t disguise its true nature as a pompous Euro-pudding.

Caine looks bemused as a cat burglar who teams up with Italian beauty Giovanna Ralli and her gay husband (Eric Portman) to steal jewels in Spain.

And while the robbery is tense, it’s not in the Thomas Crown class.
