These two gems from Italian master Dario Argento are characteristically contrary – one’s enchanting, the other infuriating.
Starring Blow-Up’s David hemmings and all but retreading its plot, Deep Red is a spooky, rome-set whodunit and one of argento’s best. Suspiria sequel Inferno, meanwhile, is harder to canonise – a WTF? baroque horror of dazzling set-pieces with dodgy joins.
Inferno’s 90 minutes-worth of featurettes, overshadow Red’s less substantial haul, but both include posters, postcards and An Eye For Horror, an hour-long doc introducing the director’s oeuvre in all its enchanting, infuriating glory.
