Holocaust heroics deserve a second viewing.

Scorned on release for its earnest, over-reaching mix of true-life Holocaust heroics and biff-bang action, Edward Zwick’s elegantly crafted tale of the Bielski brothers’ wartime struggle to keep Jewish refugees alive in the Belarus forests is surprisingly watchable.

Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell wrestle with Russian accents, German patrols and sibling rivalry with varying degrees of success, but no shortage of skill or commitment.
