Robert Rodriguez's sequel/ remake to ultra-low-budget killer hit El Mariachi sees Antonio Banderas play the titular guitar-strumming gunman, seeking revenge in a series of stylish, blood-slick set-pieces. The story's a shambles but, as ever with the director's work, energy and charisma carry it through.
DVD Extras:
Trailers, filmographies and an excellent featurette dissecting a shoot-out are complemented by a top-drawer commentary, full of interest and anecdote. "Everybody wanted to help out" on Salma Hayek's sex scene, while one member of the "really hardcore" crew sculpted a prop with his teeth. Great stuff, but familiar from every other Desperado edition including the same-price Mariachi double-discer. The only new element is a `sneak peek' at Once Upon A Time In Mexico. Collector's Edition? Cheeky.
