The third Die Hard flick partners Bruce Willis' balding cop with Samuel L Jackson's mouthy store owner and sets them bickering around a bomb-threatened New York. It starts brilliantly, with a chase idea nicked from Dirty Harry, before becoming slower and sillier, piling on self-consciously ridiculous stunts and sub-Tarantino profanity. Still far from buddy hell.
DVD Extras:
Commentary with director John McTiernan, writer Jonathan Hensleigh and Fox exec Tom Sherak, Making Of featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage of stunt sequences, alternate ending.Revealing that Die Hard 3 originated from a spec script called Simon Says, the commentary contribution from Hensleigh offers an enthusiastic and frank insight into working on a huge franchise. McTiernan, on the other hand, could tranquillise a horse. Featurettes are professional, stunt breakdowns interesting, alternate ending even lamer than the original's. Add an extra star to the disc rating if, unlike us, you really love the film.
