For some reason Miranda Otto’s never enjoyed the same US success as Aussie compatriots Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts.
The injustice is brought home by this charming late-’90s road movie that sees wannabe country singer Matt Day hitch a ride with thief Richard Roxburgh and his winsome redhead girlfriend. Flighty, alluring and tragic, Otto knocks the latter role out of the park.
Shame the film spends so much time on Day, whose travails will be of no surprise to anyone who’s ever heard a Johnny Cash record.
