Donnie Darko: The Director's Cut

5

Christ metaphor, Twilight Zone episode, twisted love story... The joy of Richard Kelly's storming debut is that it can be any and all of the above. This extended edition (with 20 minutes of new footage) will irk those who want to maintain the mystery, but it doesn't rob Darko of its power to provoke heated discussion.

DVD Extras:

This two-discer suffers from repeating some extras, but the standout new arrival is Kelly's packed commentary, freshly recorded with Kevin Smith. The Sundance Channel's Anatomy Of A Scene is good value, but avoid the pointless Production Diary doc. Finally, the featurette on the film's "cultural impact" is flimsy but fun.
