With East Is East, Britain finally stopped resting on its laurels and made another great British film. Forget all your Final Cuts, Swings and Circuses (especially that one), and revel in a uniquely homegrown film that also entertains in its own right. As both a launching pad for some bright new stars and the arena for two strong performances from Om Puri and Linda Bassett, this is a keeper.
DVD Extras:
Director's commentary, deleted bits, cast and crew interviews, TV ads and behind-the-scenes footage. If this disc were a headline, it would read: "Good British Film In Equally Good British Disc Shocker". Film Four obviously knows it has something special here, and has delivered the full package. So after you've watched the film in the company of director Damien O'Donnell, you've got deleted scenes (also narrated by O'Donnell), behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.
