Timing is everything, a lesson learned by EDtv, which unfairly suffered by comparisons with The Truman Show. Matthew McConaughey is likeable slacker Ed, who becomes a star when he agrees to be filmed 24 hours a day. Yet comparisons with Truman should really end here. Where the latter was essentially a near-future fairytale, EDtv tries to present a more realistic sense of fly-on-the-wall telly gone too far.
DVD Extras:
Making of documentary, director's commentary, writer's commentary, deleted scenes, out-takes, music highlights, production notes, trailer, cast and film-maker notes. An incredible list of extras means that Universal doesn't even feel the need to hype instant scene access as a bonus. A great step forward for DVD distributors, this is a superb disc which doesn't need to patronise you by labelling standards as extras.
