A Gothic fairytale? A twisted Christmas? A lonely, Frankenstein-style misunderstood outsider? Johnny Depp starring as the director's surrogate on screen? That'll be Mr Tim Burton, then. Wonderful stylised Timbo imagery, backed up (unlike some of his later movies) with a quality script and quirk-filled performances? That'll be Edward Scissorhands, then. Suits you, sir.
DVD Extras:
Commentary tracks by director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman, featurette, sound bites, conceptual art gallery, trailers and Spanish TV spots. What we have here, ladeez and germs, is a lemon of a DVD. Like a car that looks great on the outside, yet turns out to be a rusting, scrap-worthy wreck under the bonnet, this Scissorhands disc is a non-starter. Tim Burton leaves... huge... pauses... between occasionally insightful comments - - and so does Danny Elfman. So why not combine the two? The featurette takes longer to say than to actually watch, and the soundbites come straight from it, so why bother with both? The movie's worth it - - but the extras suck.
