Elite Squad: The Enemy Within

3

The worst advert for Brazilian tourism since City Of God

José Padilha’s brutal sequel to his own police thriller digs deeper and hits harder than his controversial debut, but he still shoots first and asks dubious questions later.

With Rio’s top paramilitary cop Nascimento (Wagner Moura) bumped to a desk job after mismanaging a prison riot bloodbath, his militia is disbanded –sending the drug cartels and dirty cops of the favelas spiralling back into open warfare.

Violent, visceral and not half as insightful as it could be, Padilha’s solid procedural is the worst advert for Brazilian tourism since City Of God.
