With ‘From the producers of Wedding Crashers’ slapped on its cover, and a “we’re having so much fun” extras package, it’s clear that Employee Of The Month is applying for the position of Frat Pack Flick. With Yank gag-slinger Dane Cook onboard, the CV looks good but a limp script – about a slacker desperate to win the titular contest in order to nail his hot co-worker – hobbles his chances of breaking out as a star over here. Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson proves she’s a one-trick pony; all T&A with a touch of Dolly Parton. The diminutive warbler is no more than a trophy for the two leads and the unconvincing “who’s going to get the girl?” schtick never really takes off. In fact, you could completely remove Simpson’s character and the supermarket battle between slob and swot (Dax Shepard) would still have worked – just without the legs to ogle. If you feel compelled to purchase, wait ’til it’s on special.
