Based on an investigation by Fortune magazine writer Bethany McLean into the collapse of the Enron Corporation, this informative doc succeeds by leaving the numbers at the door and letting the personalities do the talking. It’s a staggering, often blackly comic account of the American dream gone sour, which also gives intriguing insight into a subculture of Glengarry-esquehi-fiving “Yes!” men. The single gripe here is the way the film concludes with a cloying sense of anticlimax, and only with the gift of hindsight – now that the guilty have been punished – is the cautionary tale given its moral closure.
DVD Extras:
Extras include an informative audio commentary by director Alex Gibney and a bunch of superfluous deleted scenes.
