After the mediocrity of Runaway Bride, the "based on a true story" concept of a single mum taking on big business shrieked TV-movie hell for Julia Roberts. DVD Extras:
Theatrical trailer, deleted scenes with director's commentary, Making Of featurette, The Real Erin Brockovich featurette, filmographies. The layout is slick, with excerpts of the movie playing behind menus as the scores introduce two behind-the-scenes featurettes. The thoughts of the director and actors in the Making Of are welcome, but The Real Erin Brockovich falls beneath a barrage of fawning adjectives. Still, the deleted scenes add enough material for a whole new movie, with insightful commentary from Soderbergh.
