Escape From New York

4

John Carpenter's 1981 flick follows con Snake Plissken (Russell again, this time huskily whispering) on a thrilling race against time. Plissken is booby-trapped and sent to Manhattan Island, now a maximum security prison filled with millions of felons and loonies, to rescue Donald Pleasence's kidnapped President.

DVD Extras:

Production notes.BMG might as well not have bothered. A neatly-designed menu system hides three sub-options of text-based shallowness; Special Effects hides four pages of big print info. Making The Film strings out five screens of trivia; while The Edit reveals some good information on Carpenter's original opening for the movie. Cut out of the theatrical version, there are only stills of Plissken's botched bank job, where there should have been the actual film footage. No doubt there's a tedious legal reason for its absence.

Hint: The film starred Michael J Fox as accidental time traveller Marty McFly.
