David Cronenberg returns to body-horror-dealing form with this doomy tale of virtual reality computer games, although he includes a healthy streak of dark humour and a teensy touch of self-parody.

Heading up an impressive clutch of special features is a 53-minute documentary which focuses on production designer Carol Spiers, looking at her career and then focusing on the nitty gritty of her job during the shoot for eXistenZ. A refreshing change from the usual spotlight-on-location-approach, this offers a good insight into how they established the look of this twisted little thriller.
