Family Jewels

This ballsy suburban comedy is painfully short on laughs...

Family Jewels review

Equal parts Knocked Up and Napoleon Dynamite, this startlingly unfunny castrationcom (known Stateside as Barry Munday) is as short on yuks as it is on nuts.

Granted, Patrick Wilson is watchable as a dim suburban stud, grasping at accidental fatherhood after losing his testicles in a freak attack. But he’s atop a pile of tired man-child gags about swapping porn and slushy self-realisation.

Sadly, the usually sublime Judy Greer is shrewishly one-note as his impregnated other half.

Note to filmmakers: there’s more to indie comedy than ugly décor, unhappy families and awkward silences.
