Mia Hansen-love's stylish and textured portrait of a charming, frantic, Parisian film producer Gregoire (Louis-Do de Lenquesaing) draws you in effortlessly. But when Gregoire’s juggling act with big debts and bad shoots comes to a shocking halt, the gear-switch is touching but less involving. Like Hansen-love’s debut All Is Forgiven, this explores a complicated father-daughter bond with tender subtlety. If only it were as clear-eyed about art-house film as it is about family life – rather Frenchly, Gregoire’s imploding business is seen as a sacred vocation.
