Jack Nicholson is Robert Dupea, a brilliant classical pianist from a well-to-do family, who ups and leaves it all, choosing a life of uncertainty and emptiness. When his father has a stroke he is drawn home and reminded of the life he once lived. Director Bob Rafelson creates a subtle and thoughtful character study which is just as effective more than two decades later.
DVD Extras:
Filmographies. This disc doesn't even have a trailer. It beggars belief when a classic is re-released on this spanking new format, to be only given a measly pile of filmographies. Yet there is a fair argument for purchasing Five Easy Pieces on DVD: it's a very good film, and it'd be a hard job to get hold of a copy in crisp widescreen on any other format. Tear yourself in half deciding.
