French Film

Sentimental rather than poignant

Labouring under the gross misapprehension that it’s cleverer than it actually is, French Film comes across like an unfunny cross between Mike Leigh and Richard Curtis. Sentimental rather than poignant, it’s melancholic.

It’s also frightfully English, although its only truly Gallic ingredient (Eric Cantona) is also its best.
