“Good news everyone!” Five years after network dithering led to Futurama’s demise, the Planet Express crew are back in the first of four feature-length DVD movies. (The format’s apt: it was season boxset sales that convinced the big-wigs to resurrect the Matt Groening-created franchise.) So how does it feel to have Fry, Bender and co out of suspended animation? It’s like they’ve never been away. When malicious nudist aliens discover the key to time travel is tattooed on erstwhile pizza-guy Fry’s derriere, they start a riot of era-leaping, star wars and whale-loving. Stuffed with visual zingers and pop-culture nods, Bender’s Big Score only loses points for an over-sugared subplot set in 2001.
