Georgia Rule

A straight-to-DVD release for Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall’s woefully misjudged dramedy about relationships and lady problems – a film in the vein of Steel Magnolias but with only a tenth of its heart. Lindsay Lohan is mostly dreadful as the spoilt and slutty Rachel, sent to Idaho by her alcoholic mother (Felicity Huffman) for some small-town therapy at the hands of her cantankerous grandma (Jane Fonda). The dialogue is horrible and Fonda and Huffman are wasted, but there’s perverse pleasure in Li-Lo’s antics, like when she shows a repressed Mormon the ‘Promised Land’.
