Steve Carell’s update of Don Adams’ zingy ’60s spy spoof can’t be any worse than this. A sequel series that could easily be called Dick: Son Of Smart, this mid-’90s barrel-scraper casts ubiquitous comic alsoran Andy Dick (last seen in Employee Of The Month and the star of his own short-lived, self-titled MTV vehicle) as Zach Smart, the bumbling wannabe-spy son of original star Maxwell (Adams, present, incorrect and demonstrating that money will always win out over good sense) and Congresswoman Smart (Barbara Feldon), formerly Agent 99. Maxwell has been promoted to Chief of the CONTROL agency (the bastard TV brother of UNCLE) and ignores all advice to partner the inept Zach with snotty, sexy Agent 66 (Elaine Hendrix). Funny? Barely a titter over seven painful episodes. Extras make up for it? There are none. Get smart and bag the original or take a trip to the flicks to see Carell.
