Tub-thumping patriotism, huge chunks of plot-heavy chatter and lots of facial hair: this made-for-TV drama about the American Civil War is a hard sell.
Clocking in at 243 minutes, it's the bum-numbing story of North-versus-South ripped from the pages of a history textbook. Thundering battle scenes pad out the oh-so-dull bits, but not even the presence of Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen and Jeff Daniels can inject this bloated historical epic with any real sense of drama.
