Gigola

2

The show must go on!

Georgia (Lou Doillon) is in love with her tutor, but when said tutor takes her own life, Georgia’s left with two things – a chestful of heartache and the nickname ‘Gigola’.

No surprises, then, when Gigola starts renting herself out to moneyed women and coldly satisfying their needs while hiding behind a tidy suit and a spangly cane. What could have been a poetic study of grief and desire is sadly nothing more than a showcase for raunchy lesbian clinches and a few cabaret showstoppers.

Gigola – both the film and the character – offer nothing more than surface glitz, remaining coldly aloof and frustratingly inscrutable.
