Goldfinger: Special Edition

5

Widely regarded as one of the best in the series, Goldfinger is certainly the Bond which set the standards - - in terms of girls, gadgets and bad-guy gimmicks. Sean Connery returns for the third film as everyone's favourite misogynist spy, this time pitting his wits against German tycoon Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe), who's hatched a devious plan to infect the US gold reserves at Fort Knox with radiation so that he can raise the commercial value of his own bullion.

DVD Extras:

Audio commentary by director Guy Hamilton, commentary by cast and crew, Making Of Goldfinger documentary, Goldfinger Phenomenon documentary, behind-the-scenes stills gallery, original publicity featurette, original interviews with Sean Connery, theatrical trailer, TV and radio spots. A solid gold disc: thanks to some welcome digital mastering, the colours are brighter and the image sharper, while the extras are plush and plentiful. The making-of documentary (narrated by Patrick Macnee), includes behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew, including Honor Blackman and director Guy Hamilton, while the Phenomenon prog takes a fresh approach in looking at how the film was first promoted as well as its influence on pop culture. MGM has performed beyond the call of duty here, putting the shine back into this quintessential Bond outing.
