Grow Your Own

3

Inspired by a Liverpool scheme where asylum seekers were given allotments, this is both a very contemporary yet thuddingly traditional British comedy-drama. Refugees invade Northern allotments much to the annoyance of firmly rooted inhabitants while a nasty mobile phone company hovers ominously. As a witty critique of British small-mindedness, Grow just about succeeds, despite its thorny issues being trimmed and tied till it feels like topiary shaped after The Full Monty/Calendar Girls cookie-cutter.

DVD Extras:

Extras are limited to two brief featurettes, gag reel and deleted scenes.
