Happy People: A Year in the Taiga

A hard year in the frozen wilderness with a stoic fur trapper

Pointing his camera at everyone from death row inmates to crazy bear men, Werner Herzog has dedicated the last few years to filming the lives of those living on the edge. Co-directing with Dmitry Vasyukov, Herzog takes us to the remote Siberian village of Bakhatia, latching on to one stoic fur trapper and following him through a hard year in the frozen wilderness. Beautifully shot, and honeyed by Herzog’s inimitable German brogue, it’s another extraordinary human story from a master documentarian.
