Tim Robbins is a scientist who's big on table manners and small on penis size. He's seeing Patricia Arquette, a girl who can't stop sprouting body hair. Rhys Ifans is the shag-happy apeman who Robbins is trying to refine. Inked by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich), this satire riffs on a Big Idea - - the conflicting urges of nature and civilisation - - but never evolves beyond hit-and-miss gaggery. Zany and inventive, but there's little method to the madness on view.
DVD Extras:
Ifans and helmer Michel Gondry aren't exactly the best of blab-buddies, but they manage a few decent anecdotes. Forget the flimsy featurette, though.
