A shy young lad from a small town near Milan gets his first job in the big city

Ermanno Olimi came to international fame with this, his second feature. Il Posto (The Job) is a beguiling, affectionate – and apparently autobiographical – account of a shy young lad from a small town near Milan getting his first job in the big city. Olmi observes with gentle irony not only the boy himself – a Keatonesque innocent played by non-professional Sandro Panseri – but the minutiae of social embarrassment, the petty envies of office politics and the dead-end lives of his fellow-workers. neo-realism with heart and soul.
