Hard hitting film addressing sex trade has hope

Director Ulrich Seidl’s grimly confrontational, riveting portrait of financial desperation intertwines the stories of pretty Ukrainian nurse Olga (Ekateryna Rak), who crosses into Austria to work as a cleaner, and debt-strapped Austrian Pauli (Paul Hoffman), who heads East with his sleazy father transporting arcade machines.

Scenes showing the sex trade’s seedy realities are hard to stomach but aren’t gratuitous, and the film’s not without hope. Incisive yak-track by Seidl.
