Under the perpetual glow of Alaska’s midnight sun, veteran cop Will Dormer (Al Pacino) hunts killer Walter Finch (Robin Williams), in a twisted game of hide-and-seek complicated both by Dormer’s insomnia and his sense of guilt over the death of his partner. Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to Memento is just as taut and ambiguous as its predecessor and – arguably – features better performances from its leading men, Pacino’s world-weary bleariness finding an inspired counterpoint in Williams’ consciously underplayed psycho-as-regular-guy persona.
