From foot and mouth and mad cow disease to genetically-modified mutant cattle... this atmospheric Irish eco-horror taps some contemporary fears as DNA testing breeds a Cronenberg-style mutation on an isolated dairy farm. Debut director Billy O’Brien impresses with a dour script and gloomy visuals capturing mud, cow shite and the grim desperation of subsistence farming. It’s already been dubbed “barnyard Alien”, which is spot-on.
